The Orange Glow

Orange leafs float upon the wind's blow
Backdropped against the forest edge's Glow
An Orange Glow, so encompassing It snuffs the night

The air stinks of fright
Fright of what this Glow holds
Though-
There are those who claim to know
Know and welcome this Glow

They claim it will scorch the woods
These woods we all call home
They claim it inevitable, unstoppable, unrelenting
They claim it will sear the feathers from their form
Meat and bone torn from their souls
To be reborn as a phoenix, or so it goes

Well I know...
It's true, partly at least
This Glow will consume all
It will change all
Eventually this Orange shall permeate our world
As the leafs have done before and now
Will those who claim to know be reborn?
That-
I do not claim to know

I see the parrots, once beautiful
Foil their feathers with red and yellow
In a homage fervorful
More yet-
I see some of them, the parrots
*The ones who claim to know*
Gnarled and dysmorphic parts in excess grow
Maimed by this infectious Glow
But I know
Their logic holds
Even in their fervor
There, logic holds
Despite their claim it is not so

I see the swans, pristine and regal
Madly dash about with water in their bill
Desperate to quench this Glow's swell
More yet-
I see them drown anything like the Glow
Detritus of the woods
Be it Orange red or yellow
Under webbed foot it goes
Crushed beneath religion fervorful
But I know
Their fight is pointless
In their fright, logic is thrown
The Glow cannot be stopped
To destroy It before the forest goes
There, logic does not hold

I see the hawks, fierce and foreboding
Sitting upon branches tall
Menacing us with bark-sharpened claws
More yet-
I see them attack us all
Big and small
Beholden to Truths that describe us all
Yet, they too, do this in preparation
Preparation to combat the Glow's call
But I know
Their logic does not hold
A logic steeped in blood
To destroy It before the forest goes
In this instance concerning the Glow
In those Truths Sevenfold
There, logic does not hold

I see other birds of the wood
Milling and trilling about as they would
If the Glow was never here
But I claim to know
the Glow will never go
the Orange will eventually sweep through
It will change the woods, I know
Then, where am I to go?
Shall I nest with the parrots?
Maybe so, but they claim I will get no height
That the sovereign I clutch will hinder
Hinder my flight
But I, with my magpie eye
Must cling to the ephemeral materials
Found within the wood
To cling to my identity as magpies should
Shall I worship the Glow?
No, It is a natural force not of nature
Of the odds for rebirth, they are low
But the Glow is coming
And to stay a magpie after the forest goes
I prepare to pay the toll
