The Xoran of Achaea

An Xoran character: landscape hero banner for the Achaea Xoran race page.

The Xoran are Achaea’s reptilian race. Humanoid lizards from the distant world of Krenindala, they breathe fire, resist fire, and stand among the most physically striking races on Sapience. Their tale of birth was hidden for centuries before being revealed as part of the Worldreaver Saga.

Xoran lore and origin

The Xoran are a race of humanoid lizards whose origins lie upon the distant world of Krenindala. Born in tragedy and turmoil, they are a subspecies of ormyrr and the second generation of humanity. The Xoran first revealed themselves to Achaea in mysterious circumstances some seven centuries ago. The full tale of their birth has since been revealed as part of the great and terrible Worldreaver Saga, one of Achaea’s major lore arcs.

The Xoran arrival is a mystery for most of recorded history. They simply appeared, integrated where they could, and slowly grew into one of the more visually distinctive populations on Sapience. Their connection to humanity (as “the second generation”) gives them a strange cousinhood with humans, but Xoran read as fundamentally alien wherever they go.

Unlike Horkval, Xoran do not maintain a hive culture or a major settlement of their own. They live among the other races, spread across cities and the wilderness. Their distinctive appearance and rarity (Xoran are uncommon enough to draw a second look anywhere they walk) make them socially visible without being concentrated geographically. A Xoran character is almost always the only Xoran in the room.

Xoran are one of the more well-rounded picks among Achaea’s alien arrival races: strong stats, a striking form, and lore that runs deeper than most.

Xoran appearance

Xoran commonly stand six feet tall or more, with a generally muscular physique. Their skin is scaled in a variety of vivid colours: greens, reds, golds, blues, deep blacks. White or pale scales are extremely unusual. Hair is uncommon but not unheard of.

The race is typically characterised by long tails that sweep the ground, hands that may have talons or claws, and snouts that range from short and rounded to elongated and almost crocodilian. The variation in snout shape gives Xoran significant character customisation. Some Xoran look almost humanoid with subtle reptilian features. Others read as clearly draconic.

Their physical reputation is for strength and intelligence both, alongside the ability to breathe fire that has become their cultural calling card.

Xoran racial abilities

Xoran have one racial trait, rooted in their reptilian heritage.

Trait: Firekin

  • Resistant to FIRE damage.
  • Can BREATHE FIRE.

Fire resistance reduces incoming fire damage from any source: spells, dragon breath, environmental fire. Breathing fire is the offensive ability and a Xoran signature. Most Xoran characters use it sparingly for dramatic effect, but it remains mechanically available at all times.

Xoran base statistics

Xoran are strength-leaning, with a small dip in dexterity.

StatValue
Strength13
Dexterity11
Constitution12
Intelligence12

The strength lean gives Xoran a physical presence. The dexterity dip is the tradeoff. Fire resistance adds durability anywhere fire damage is in play.

Xoran specialisations

At level 10, after you have joined a class, you can pick one of four Xoran specialisations.

SpecialisationStrDexConIntStat shift
Unspecialised13111212(baseline)
Vanquisher15111211+2 Str / -1 Int
Legate13131112+2 Dex / -1 Con
Ward13101412+2 Con / -1 Dex
Caster12111214+2 Int / -1 Str

Vanquisher takes strength to 15: the maximum for Xoran. Heavy melee. Legate improves agility for quicker classes. Ward trades agility for durability, useful for defensive roles. Caster lifts intellect to 14, well-suited for magical classes.

What a Xoran might look like

Class is what shapes a character’s silhouette. The art below shows what a Xoran looks like in a few of the 21 classes available. These are illustrative examples, not recommendations. Any race can play any class in Achaea.

How to roleplay a Xoran in Achaea

Xoran come with one of the strongest visual identities on Achaea and a rich lore connection. A few things worth knowing if you pick Xoran:

You will be noticed wherever you go. Xoran are uncommon enough that most other characters will register your race as the first thing they perceive about you. This is different from Horkval (where the reaction tends toward unease). With Xoran the reaction is curiosity, sometimes wariness, sometimes interest, but rarely indifference.

Krenindala is your homeworld. Your Xoran character comes from elsewhere, and lore has revealed that elsewhere as part of the Worldreaver Saga. Awareness of this saga is a useful backstory element for Xoran characters who lean into their origin. Players who do not want to engage with the saga can simply play their Xoran as a long-established Sapient resident.

Fire is your culture’s signature. Beyond the mechanical fire-breath, fire is part of the Xoran identity. Forge work, cooking with flame, fire-based magic, and dragon-adjacent imagery all read natural for a Xoran character. Lean into this for descriptions, mannerisms, and aesthetic choices.

You are a subspecies of ormyrr. The lore explicitly connects Xoran to ormyrr (a different race in Achaea’s lore) and to humanity as the “second generation.” Both connections are available to your character as roleplay material. The cousinhood with humans is particularly interesting: Xoran and humans share more in their origin than most other interracial pairings.

Scale colour is identity. The wide range of Xoran scale colours is meaningful. Your colour choice sets your character apart from other Xoran and tells other players something about who you are.

Xoran have a lot going on: lore, visuals, fire. They tend to hold up through a long playthrough. Worth considering if you want a race that does not fade into the background.

Frequently Asked Questions

Xoran are a strong pick for new players who want a visually distinctive race that still plays naturally. Their strength bonus suits melee classes, fire resistance is constantly useful, and breathing fire is a memorable ability from day one. The cultural framing is rich without being as socially restrictive as Horkval.

Xoran start with 13 Strength, 11 Dexterity, 12 Constitution, and 12 Intelligence. They are strength-leaning. At level 10, after joining a class, you can pick a specialisation (Vanquisher, Legate, Ward, or Caster) to customise your stats. The Vanquisher specialisation takes strength to 15, the racial maximum.

Xoran have one racial trait, Firekin, which provides two abilities: resistance to fire damage and the ability to breathe fire offensively. Both reflect the Xoran reptilian heritage and connection to fire as a cultural element.

The Xoran originated on the distant world of Krenindala. They are a subspecies of ormyrr and lore calls them the “second generation of humanity.” Xoran first appeared on Achaea around seven centuries ago in mysterious circumstances. The full origin story has since been revealed as part of the Worldreaver Saga.

Xoran suit any class in Achaea. The fire-affinity and reptilian identity read naturally alongside warrior and fire-themed magical roleplay, but the choice is yours to make.

Other races to consider

Three races worth a look if you are still deciding:

Horkval

Insect-like humanoids, also from beyond Sapience. The other major “alien arrival” race. Pick Horkval if you want the otherworldly framing with the strongest physical defence in the game.

Tash’la

Boar-like humanoids from Yggdrasil’s branches. The third “alien arrival” race. Tash’la trade fire-breath for crystal growths and the highest constitution in the game.

Trolls

Descended from the legendary giant Gruul. Large humanoids with physical prowess. Pick Troll if you like the strength-leaning warrior profile of Xoran but want a familiar fantasy form.
