Lions and Shadows

To Micaelis al Nadir: If you are the lion, then indeed we have nothing to fear, as we well know what became of the Dawnspear during your tenure as the Dawnlord. Perhaps it is fitting that you preach to us about failure and slipping into obscurity, as those appear to be subjects you are well-versed in.

I have recently visited the Dawnspear, and what I found was a youth who, despite his age and inexperience, was already a soldier. I also found a dragon, a Harbinger, who sought to hide behind that youth and apparently believed as you do, that the Hashani soldiers bringing destruction to the Dawnspear were an illusion that could be dispelled with mere words decrying our existence.

It saddens me that the potential shown in your youths is squandered in this way, the courage evident in them fading into the apathy and cowardice of the old. What could cause such a degeneration?

Despite all your efforts, all the wars you and your fellow faithful have fought, the blood and tears you have shed, each of the enemies the Dawnspear purports to defend Creation from still stand strong. Quite unlike Shallam, now guarded by fish and seaweeds. And yet, no world-ending calamity has struck the world in the wake of your failure.

Could it be that your efforts are not only futile, but also misplaced? You expend your lives willingly in the service of the Bloodsworn Gods, believing that you are making a difference in the grand scheme of things. But somewhere deep within you know this to be false, and so, eventually, apathy sets in as your delusions are slowly but surely eroded away by the reality.

You may try to deny the existence of Hashan as much as you wish to, but the reality is that we are here to stay, and we are the future. While you make your way through life blinded by the Light, we walk with our eyes open through the Darkness, and we see the world as it is. We seize our opportunity unhindered by misguided beliefs, and march onwards in Progress. March with us, or be left behind.
