Tiny Fragment

Numb, still, dark, alone
A slight ringing in my ears
Was it a blow?
And yet I stand...
Starfall fragments at my feet
Place my hand over my chest...a hole?
Am I dead?
I cannot believe
Yet I cannot look away
The shattered pieces glittering in beautiful horror

The smallest draws my gaze
Its brilliance surpassing the rest
I want it, though I know not why
Kneeling, I lift it from the ground
As a delicate butterfly, my hands a gentle net

Holding it to my chest
A flutter of hope
Growing warm as I hold it close and safe
Tears flood my eyes
As they open for the first time

Everything has changed
My rescue
This world a dim existence
In light of the brilliant shine
From my most tiny fragment, always

Penned by my hand on the 9th of Aeguary, in the year 811 AF.
