For a Season

In the summer of my youth no strife could torment me
For I had become more than I had ever thought I'd be
Not burdened with commodity but well and truly free
Still, in my place of refuge there were troubles yet to see

Autumn ushers memories of all I learned from you
Of looking ever fondly up the way a child might do
And promising to be always patient, honest, true
But your empty words fade into winter cold and blue

Blizzards coat the Vashnars with a shroud of virgin dust
And I my foolish sorrows to that tempest do entrust
Swallow pity and ordain to carry on, I must
Come crawling out of winter worse for wear, but only just

Spring is time to rebuild walls against the heart's demise
A time to trust in calamine to stifle gentle lies
A time for blinking tears back into clearly-seeing eyes
A time for letting go of bitter ends and sweet goodbyes

Penned by my hand on the 24th of Aeguary, in the year 794 AF.
