A Plague upon the Spirit

It was in the early days of Sarapin, 772 years after the fall of the Seleucarian Empire, that the first possession occurred. The shaman Adalheidis, near the mines of Moghedu, reached out in a communion performed many times before. Yet something went terribly, catastrophically wrong, as an alien force took his body for its own and proceeded to rampage unhindered.

But it was not, as might have been hoped, a rare coincidence. Indeed, across the face of Sapience more and more shamans fell victim to the strange curse, manipulated by the fractured mind of some otherworldly intelligence, a wayward spirit cut loose from the Spirit Plane. At last, in consultation with the Shaman of Tomacula, Elegnem, and Ixtahuitl of Shala'khulia, it was voiced that perhaps O'ising, shaman of the Yriluawe, might have the necessary knowledge to solve the puzzle before the rising number of husks overwhelmed even the might of the Greater Dragons dedicated to destroying them.

From O'ising the persistent adventurers received no sure answer, but heard word of yet another shaman, in the uttermost north of Sapience: Grut Vlugar, minotaur shaman of Hriddan, and the Bone Dancer. Traveling to the distant village, Jarrod, Melodie, Taryius, and later Truax engaged in discussion with the shaman. Ultimately, the choice was left to the four, and on their behalf Grut Vlugar agreed to perform an ancient heresy, the binding of a spirit to the physical realm.

And so, as adventurers continued to summon and slay the husks wherever they found them, one month later, on the 7th of Daedalan, Grut Vlugar joined with O'ising and Elegnem upon the crystal lake of the tundra. Accompanied by the adventurers and his fellows, the minotaur shaman summoned forth the disembodied spirit, binding it to the Prime Material Plane.

But disaster struck, for in utterance of its name the spirit broke free of the bindings, claiming for itself the body of O'ising. And so it came to pass that Adchachel, the Rose of Pain, Demiurge of the Occultists, would once more walk the lands of Achaea.

Penned by My hand on the 10th of Daedalan, in the year 772 AF.
