A Lament For a Friend

On the outside looking in,
A shy observer from the shadow.
I rapped upon the door,
And you opened up your window.

The sea was in your eyes,
Moonlight was in your soul.
You hoisted me aboard,
Then steered the ship to shoal.

You made me feel welcome,
You made me feel heard.
You encouraged me onward,
To become one of Her herd.

Many nights we sat,
Kawhe in our hands,
Talking of tasks and Divine,
And history of the Lands.

Now you're on the other side,
But this cannot be the end.
While I miss you more than ever,
You were the first to call me 'friend.'

Penned by my hand on the 6th of Glacian, in the year 800 AF.
