When you begin to play Achaea, you will have to choose what race you want to be. There are twelve races that you may start out as: Human, Dwarf, Tsol'aa, Mhun, Troll, Atavian, Horkval, Grook, Rajamala, Xoran, Siren, and Satyr. Each race has its own language, though all players are able to speak Achaean, the common language as well.

Human
The human race is the most populous of the races and the most dominant. Born of the joining of Order and Chaos, they sparked a war that almost destroyed humanity (see the Mythology on the History page). The history of mortals is dominated by humanity, for they are the most vibrant of the races. Human beings are the standard against which the other races are judged.

A Human's base statistics are:
Strength 12 Dexterity 12
Intelligence 12 Constitution 12

Advantages:
Have a higher chance of critical hits.
Have a chance of increased health sip gain.

Dwarf
Dwarves are a hearty bunch. With their ancestral homes in the hills and mountains, and their never-ceasing drive to mine precious gems and metals, and to forge said metals, they are a constructive, practical race, given to hearty ale and laughter. Dwarves were originally created by Phaestus, the Smith, but he lacked the power to give them the greatest gift of all: free will. He sacrificed his own freedom by striking a bargain to serve Proteus (now Sarapis), then leader of the Gods, forever in exchange for the gift of free will for the dwarves.

A Dwarves base statistics are:
Strength 13 Dexterity 9
Intelligence 12 Constitution 15

Advantages:
Resistant to cutting damage.
Resistant to blunt damage.
Resistant to magical damage.
Resistance to fire.
Resistance to cold.
Resistance to poison (x2).
Have faster recovery from drunkenness.

Disadvantages:
Slower balance recovery.
Heals slowly from elixirs.

Tsol'aa
Tsol'aa are the eldest of the mortal races, having been created in the distant past by Proteus and Daedalus. Lithe and given to deep thought, the arts, and magic, they originate from their racial home in a massive redwood forest. The Tsol'aa have two cousin races, the Tsol'teth and the Tsol'dasi. The story of this racial split is told on the History page. The Tsol'teth are malevolent and are the terror of the underground depths. Only a single Tsol'dasi has been seen in millenia, and that during the Death's Heart crisis.

A Tsolaa's base statistics are:
Strength 11 Dexterity 13
Intelligence 15 Constitution 10

Advantages:
Resistant to magical damage.
Fast willpower recovery.
swing up|down (level 50+).

Mhun
Hailing from their racial home in the underground mining city of Moghedu, the origins of the Mhun have been lost to mortal knowledge, though it remains largely unexplored outside the Mhun race, and some intrepid explorer may yet discover it. However, there are theories that they are derived somehow from early human stock, as they closely resemble humans, albeit a tad smaller and more agile. Though they are often perceived as being primitive, this is perhaps nothing but cheap racism, as few understand their culture. The Mhun played an important part in history, having provided the bulk of Nicator's army as he led it to end the ages-old war between the great cities of Shallam and Ashtan.

A Mhun's base statistics are:
Strength 10 Dexterity 15
Intelligence 12 Constitution 11

Advantages:
Fast balance recovery.
Can see in low light.
Extra movement.
Faster digging.

Troll
The trolls are a race of larger-than-human humanoids who are the result of interbreeding between some members of an alien race that fought in the Chaos Wars and human women. They are tall and powerful, and their skin has a rather grayish tone to it.

A Troll's base statistics are:
Strength 15 Dexterity 10
Intelligence 8 Constitution 15

Advantages:
Resistant to cutting damage.
Resistant to cold (x2).
Resistant to electricity.

Immune to stink.

Disadvantages:

Atavian
Atavians are an offshoot of humans, created by Vastar, the Skylord. Aside from their wings, they are very similar to humans. It's said they reside in Arcadia, a floating city hidden in or above the clouds.

An Atavian's base statistics are:
Strength 12 Dexterity 11
Intelligence 12 Constitution 12

Advantages:
Has the ability to fly.
Stable flying in winds (level 80+)
Hover (level 50+).

Horkval
Horkval are powerful, though not particularly intelligent, insect-like humanoids. Used as shocktroops by Aegis, God of War, during the battle on Nishnatoba, they are fearsome allies, who show no fear in battle, and who work together on a level surpassed only by the crystalline Kx'khrah. Their origin is not known, but it is almost certain that they did not originate on the continent of Sapience, and possibly not even on this world.

A Horkval's base statistics are:
Strength 14 Dexterity 13
Intelligence 9 Constitution 14

Horkval:
Resistant to cutting damage (x2).
Resistant to blunt damage (x2).
Regenerates health.
Can LEAP over obstacles.

Disadvantages:
Weak vs poison (x2).
Slow balance recovery.
Cannot wear armour.

Grook
The most intelligent of the mortal races, the Grook are a race of humanoid amphibians that look a bit like frogs. The Grook seem to be a fairly recent race, perhaps produced via experimentation with powerful magic. They have no memory of their origin in any case.

A Grook's base statistics are:
Strength 9 Dexterity 10
Intelligence 17 Constitution 9

Advantages:
Water has healing powers (x2).
Natural swimmer.
Water breathing.

Disadvantages:
Weak vs fire (x3).
Weak vs electricity (x3).

Rajamala
The Rajamala are a race of proud, fierce tiger-like humanoids from a distant planet. The first that history speaks of them is when they fought with the Triumverate, under the command of the god Agatheis, during the great battle on Nishnatoba. Their origins are not known.

A Rajamala's base statistics are:
Strength 11 Dexterity 16

Herbs require more recovery time.
Heal slowly from elixirs (x2).
Slow to wake up from sleep (x2).

Xoran
The Xoran are a race of humanoid lizards. Powerful and intelligent, they are from a planet far from here. How they arrived on Sapience is also not known, but by now, they have become a familiar sight.

A Xoran's base statistics are:
Strength 14 Dexterity 10
Intelligence 13 Constitution 15

Advantages:
Resistant to fire (x2).
BREATHE FIRE ability (level 50+).
Use own flame to light.

Disadvantages:

Siren
Sirens are a race of beautiful females. Like Satyrs, the children of a Siren are randomly a Siren, or the race of the father. Sirens are not only seductive and easy on the eyes, but possess the magical ability to seduce men, so that the men will not hurt them.

A Siren's base statistics are:
Strength 11 Dexterity 13
Intelligence 14 Constitution 11

Advantages:
Ability to SEDUCE males (level 50+).
BEGUILE - the siren song.

Satyr
Satyrs are a jovial race composed entirely of males. They possess the upper body of a human man, and powerful goats legs below. Due to some unknown reproductive property inherent to them, when they have children, they may, at random, be satyrs. A love of wild entertainment and women is characteristic of most Satyrs.

A Satyr's base statistics are:
Strength 13 Dexterity 13
Intelligence 10 Constitution 13

Advantages:
Fast endurance recovery.
HEADSTOMP ability (level 50+).
