| Become the Archprelate of the Holy Church and act as a shining beacon for the disciples of Good and Light. Head the Ministry of War of one of the great city-states, commanding legions of other players against your city's foes. Watch over the bounty of the forests of Achaea as a member of the Council of Oakstone. Rule a city-state as an elected councilor, leading them in the name of good, of evil, or whatever you choose. These and more such challenges await you.
For many, the thrill of rising to positions of respect and authority amongst their peers is one of Achaea's greatest draws. The player-run organisations of Achaea provide exciting opportunities to compete in ways that are wholly dependent on dynamic, ever-changing relationships and situations. Through wit and deed, through public debates and back-room manoeuvres, natural-born leaders and masters of intrigue rise to the top in Achaea's politics.
Success
in politics is considered by some to be among the greatest
achievements possible. Signifying the respect of your
fellow mortals, it offers one an increased level of power
over and responsibility for the members of whatever organization
you hold a position of power in. It is no coincidence
that every mortal who has Ascended into Godhood has led
one of the great cities.
Broadly,
positions in governing bodies fall into three categories:
1)
Elected representatives
Examples of these positions are House Lords and Ladies, city-state
ruling councils (Archons, Viziers, etc.) and the leader
of democratic clans.
Qualified members of the organisation vote and can contest
the leadership in elections.
Elected leaders are generally the most powerful mortal
leaders.
2)
Bureaucrats
These are people appointed by the elected leaders of
organizations.
Examples are secretaries and the Head of Newcomers in Houses, and the headers of the
various city Ministries,
as well as the aides to those Ministries (War, Security,
Chancellory, etc.)
Bureaucrats often handle many of the day-to-day issues
in a city or House. For instance,
the Minister of Cultural Affairs is responsible for
holding events within a city, and
controls the city's Arena, if it has one. The Head of
Newcomers in a House is in charge of
the House's newbies.
3)
Autocrats
These are people whose positions cannot be contested.
They include the heads of non-democratic clans, and
the heads of Divine Orders, who may only be appointed by a
God, and whose position cannot be challenged by other
mortals.
